WELCOME TO THE CHARITY OF THOMAS OKEN & NICHOLAS EYFFLER WEBSITE

The Charity was set up in accordance with the will of Thomas Oken, who lived in the 1500`s, in which he arranged, amongst other things:

  • The payment of the salary of the schoolmaster
  • Annual payments to "the poor"
  • The paving of certain streets
  • The repairing of the bridge
  • The wages of the herdsmen and the beadle
  • The repairing of the wells
  • The provision of the almshouses for six people.

Such provisions as are applicable today are carried out by Oken`s Charity, including the building and maintenance of almshouses.

There are two sites of almshouses, namely:

  • 1 - 10 Castle Hill
  • 1-7 The Guild Cottages.

Applicants must live within the bounds of the town of Warwick and worthy of assisted housing. Applicants apply on the form provided, and are called to interview by two or more Trustees. Forms may be obtained by clicking "Application Forms" to the left, or from:
